Evelyn's has been on Banff Ave long enough to have built the kind of local loyalty that outlasts every new coffee concept that opens on the strip. The espresso program is well-executed and the bakery selection runs through the morning with enough variety to reward arriving at different times.
The room is small and the turnover is fast on summer mornings. Arrive before 8am and the crowd is mostly locals and early-rising hikers. Arrive after 9am on a weekend and the tourist wave has hit. The staff have been there long enough to be efficient without being robotic.
Evelyn's does not try to be a destination cafe. It is a neighbourhood coffee bar that has earned its place on Banff Ave by doing the basics correctly for a long time. Worth knowing about specifically because it does not market itself to visitors.
