Bakehouse Banff makes its own bread, pastries, and prepared foods daily, which immediately sets it apart from the generic tourist shops lining Banff Avenue. You're not grabbing day-old items here. This is where locals actually buy breakfast before heading to trailheads, and where you should too if you want something worth eating.
The sourdough is solid and the croissants show real technique. Pick up a sandwich for your hike or grab a coffee and a pastry if you're staying in town. They rotate seasonal items, so in summer you'll find berry tarts that aren't available in winter. The grab-and-go model means you're in and out quickly, though the selection does shrink by mid-afternoon once the tour groups roll through.
Go early, especially June through September, or you'll find picked-over shelves. If you arrive after 3pm expecting variety, you'll be disappointed. It's a working bakery first and a retail shop second. This works perfectly if you're planning ahead for a picnic or need fuel before dawn, but it's not the place to linger or browse.
