The book shop at the Whyte Museum on Bear Street carries the most thoughtfully selected collection of mountain literature in Banff. The Canadian Rockies natural history titles cover geology, ecology, and wildlife in depth. The mountaineering and alpine history section covers the first ascents and early expeditions in the range.
The Indigenous studies section is better than you would find at most Canadian bookshops. The shop also carries local author titles and self-published guidebooks that are not available anywhere else. Worth browsing before buying anything in the airport or at a chain retailer.
