Chinook runs the most straightforward rafting operation in town, offering half and full-day trips on the Bow River without the marketing hype. You get experienced guides, solid equipment, and routes that range from mellow floats to genuine whitewater depending on water levels and your skill. This is where locals send visiting friends when they actually want to raft, not Instagram.
Book the half-day trip if you're new to rafting or short on time. The full-day option includes lunch and takes you farther downstream where the current picks up. Spring runoff (May through early June) brings the best whitewater; summer flows are calmer but the water is warmer and sightings of elk and bighorn sheep improve. Guides know the river well and will point out features you'd miss paddling solo.
The main trade-off is that Chinook doesn't offer the luxury lodge experience or fancy riverside meals you'll find at premium outfitters. What you do get is genuine river time without pretense. Go in June if you want real rapids, or July-August if you prefer steadier conditions and wildlife watching. Book through their website or drop into the Sundance Mall location to confirm availability the day before.
