Book this if you want to ski terrain that doesn't exist on any marked trail map. CMH operates heli-skiing in the backcountry surrounding Banff, dropping you into untracked snow bowls and alpine runs that regular ski resorts can't touch. You'll cover more vertical in a day than a week at Lake Louise, and you'll do it with a small group and a guide who reads snow conditions in real time.
Expect to ski 12,000 to 15,000 vertical feet daily across multiple runs. Your guide chooses routes based on weather, avalanche conditions, and your group's ability. You'll stay in remote mountain lodges and eat better than you will in town. Runs range from mellow cruising to steep couloirs, so tell CMH honestly about your skiing level when you book.
Go in March or early April when the snow is stable and days are long. Winter dumps more snow but brings avalanche risk and shorter daylight. This costs serious money and demands genuine backcountry skiing ability, not just resort comfort. Skip this if you're a beginner or prefer groomed runs. You'll also need to be okay with helicopter noise and a full day of physical exertion.
