The early morning and evening departures in summer and fall are built around the feeding patterns of the animals rather than the convenience of the schedule, which means the sightings are more reliable than generic sightseeing tours. Elk, deer, and black bears are common. Grizzly sightings happen on the wildlife-specific tours with enough regularity to be a legitimate draw rather than a bonus.

The Columbia Icefield day trips are best done on a clear day when the scale of the icefield is visible. The Lake Louise and Yoho excursions are well-paced and the guides know the geology and ecology well enough to make the drive between stops genuinely informative. Book wildlife tours at least a week in advance in peak season.
