This campground gives you a rare combo: direct access to a glacial lake and genuine solitude on the Icefields Parkway. Most visitors skip it in favor of Lake Louise or Moraine Lake, which means you actually get elbow room here. The setting sits between two turquoise lakes where you can canoe, fish, or just watch the peaks reflect off the water without fighting crowds.
The 116 sites split between two loops, and you'll find yourself surrounded by subalpine forest and mountain views. Book a site on the north loop if you want lakeside access. The lake water stays cold year-round, so swimming isn't realistic, but paddling is excellent and the fishing can be decent. There's a day-use area if you just want to pop in for a few hours.
Reserve ahead for mid-June through September, when the campground fills quickly but the weather cooperates. Shoulder season (May and early June) feels quieter, though evening temperatures drop fast. The trade-off is location: you're 30 kilometers north of Lake Louise and isolated if you need supplies or services. Stay here if you want a proper camping experience rather than a hotel with mountain views.
