Mount Norquay offers the quickest lift access to alpine terrain in Banff, which matters if you want to escape crowded valley trails without spending half your day driving. This smaller ski area has personality that the mega-resorts lack, and the views across the range from the summit are genuinely worth the trip regardless of season.
In winter, the terrain suits intermediate skiers best, though you'll find a solid mix of runs and a terrain park if that's your thing. Summer visitors ride the chairlift to the summit for hiking or mountain biking, or take the historic Norquay Ridge Trail (easier, great for families). The lodge serves decent food, and the whole operation feels less corporate than Banff's other ski hill.
Go on a weekday in January or February when conditions are solid and locals actually outnumber tourists. The trade-off: Mount Norquay's smaller size means it closes earlier in spring than Lake Louise, and powder days get tracked up faster. It's perfect if you want skiing without the Lake Louise circus, but skip it if you're looking for endless terrain or extreme vertical.
